Working at Wagtales

DOG WALKER

A part-time position is available to a trustworthy, passionate, reliable and dedicated individual for dog walking work in fields and parks. The position promises to be fun but also hard work, walking a lovely gang of pooches of all shapes, sizes and temperaments. Additional work could also involve pet-sitting.

A Wagtales walker will typically be a dog owner past or present, have a genuine desire to work with animals and have a reasonable level of fitness and good health and a love of the outdoors. We do require an up-to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Certificate, formally known as Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form for all dog walkers, home sitters & boarders.You may additionally be requested to close and open curtains/blinds, take in the mail/newspapers and putting lights on and off.

The position will require you to register as self-employed. You will walk a maximum of six dogs in any one group. You can expect to walk an average of 6 dogs per day for three days or one walk a day five days a week; we can be flexible with which days these are. However, we cannot guarantee hours or income. 

 

The following criteria must be met;

  • Ownership of a suitable car/van in which either dog guards or crates can be fitted to ensure the safety of the dogs whilst travelling. 

  • Must own a mobile phone and be willing to use it for work purposes, inc taking pictures and posting on our social media.

  • Able to cover the core hours 10am – 3pm. 

  • Experience of handling dogs of various breeds. 

  • Willingness to be out and about in bad weather. 

  • Time management and organisational skills. 

  • Willingness to undergo a police check or have a current up-to date DBS. 

  • Commitment to our philosophy of positive reinforcement.

In return we will provide you with: Extensive on the job training and support by the Canine Manager/s as well as paid animal care qualifications such as canine first aid. Fully insured with Petplan Sanctuary. All equipment provided: Dog crate/car guard, towels, spare leads/collars/harnesses, regular supply of dog treats/poo bags.

HOME BOARDERS

We currently have vacancies for a number of home boarders to give dogs a home based holiday, in and around Wheelton. If you have experience of owning a dog, but now find yourself without any pets, then providing a loving home by becoming a Wagtales Carer can be both a fun and rewarding time for you and the dogs in your care. Alternatively perhaps you own one dog that would enjoy the company of a holiday guest!  A Wagtales Home Boarder will typically be a dog owner past or present and will have a genuine desire to work with animals and be over 25 years of age and have no pre-school children. You will need experience of looking after dogs, understand the importance of client care and adhering to the owner’s instructions. You must have a secure and dog friendly garden. If you are a current dog owner you will only be considered if your dog/s are friendly towards others.  


This job is totally flexible. You can work when you like although the more available you are the easier it is for Wagtales to assign work to you. When you have a dog staying with you, the normal rules of dog ownership apply; Boarding clients must not be left alone for longer than 3-4 hours and  will need to be walked twice a day. Apart from these commitments, your time is your own and domestic life goes on as normal when on a boarding assignment.

  • Wagtales approved carers are required to accept and abide by our Code of Practice.
